A Club Car DS Motor is a specific type of electric golf cart motor that is used in Club Car DS model golf carts. Club Car DS motors convert electrical energy from your golf cart batteries into mechanical energy, which then accelerate your DS cart forward or backward when in gear. Your Club Car DS Motor is controlled by your DS golf cart controller.

Club Car DS Electric Motors come in three different system types:

• Series-Wound DC (Direct Current) systems
• Separately-Excited Motor (SEM) systems, or
• AC (Alternating Current) system motors

The type of motor your cart has will significantly impact the performance, speed, and efficiency of your golf cart. Late-model Club Car DS carts come with AC motors from the factory, due to their higher efficiency and performance compared to the older DC motor type. AC motors also require less maintenance than Direct-Current system motors do.
